What the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 Say's

Since the 1st October 2006 the law has required every company to carry out a suitable and sufficient and if you have more than 5 employees the Assessment must be recorded.

  • You must carry out a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) on your premsies, and document the risk assessment if you have 5 or more staf

  • Train all employed personnel in fire safety

  • Ensure you have an emergency plan in place

  • Maintain your emergency escape routes at all times

  • Practice your evacuation procedure at least every 12 months

  • Regularly test your fire alarms and emergency lighting

  • Inspect and test your fire extinguishers annually

  • Check your fire extinguishers every month

  • Have all your portable appliances tested (PAT testing)

  • Maintain a fire log book and complete all records

FACT – some forms of asbestos were not completely banned in the UK until 1999 and many asbestos containing materials were still manufactured up to the mid 1990’s, as such an asbestos survey is a legal requirement for all non domestic properties built before the year 2000.
